New programme approval

A proposal for a new academic programme is reviewed for need and demand, alignment with the University's mission, curriculum against the HEC model curriculum, availability of qualified faculty and of laboratory, library and computing resources, and a financial plan. The Directorate reviews the proposal against these headings before it is placed before the Board of Studies, the Board of Faculty, the Academic Council and the Syndicate.

Annual monitoring and evaluation

Every programme is monitored each year regardless of where it sits in the self-assessment cycle. Annual monitoring looks at enrolment and progression, results and pass rates, student withdrawal, course evaluation and teacher evaluation scores, faculty strength and workload, and the status of actions carried forward from the previous year.

Departmental review

Departmental review takes a wider view than a single programme: the department's overall academic health, its research output, its resourcing, and the coherence of the programme portfolio it offers. Reviews are conducted on a defined cycle and reported to the competent authority.

Quality assurance of MS/MPhil and PhD programs

Research degree programs carry their own controls: supervisor eligibility and load, the synopsis approval route through the Board of Advanced Studies and Research, progress review of each research student, similarity checking of the thesis, and evaluation by external examiners in line with HEC requirements.

External evaluation

Alongside the University's internal reviews, programs and the institution are evaluated externally — by the relevant accreditation council for the discipline, and by the HEC through the Institutional Performance Evaluation exercise. The Directorate coordinates both, and maintains the documentary record they require.
